What Happens on a Well Call

Three steps, and the first costs nothing: the tank and the pressure switch come before the pump.

The short of it

The above-ground parts get tested first — the tank, the pressure switch — because they are the inexpensive ones and the usual culprits. Nothing is charged to the household for the introduction, and PumpDepth is paid by the contractor who takes the call.

PumpDepth is a referral service, not a contractor. We connect homeowners with independent contractors. Contractors are required to hold whatever credential their state or municipality demands. Every state page sets out who licenses plumbers there and where to check, so you can confirm before work begins. We carry out no work, we sell no equipment, we do not set prices, and we never charge homeowners anything — the contractors in our network pay us when we route them a call.

Check the accessible half first

Breaker, disconnect, pressure switch, gauge. All of it is above ground and none of it needs a contractor to look at. The order to check them in is on its own page.

Work out which pump you have

Ten seconds beside the tank, and it changes what any repair involves.

Then call

The number on this site connects you to an independent contractor covering your area. We pass on what you tell us. We do not quote, schedule or supervise the work.

And what not to do

Do not keep resetting a breaker that trips immediately, and do not leave a pump running dry or short cycling while you decide. Both turn a repairable fault into a replacement.

On a well, nobody else is going to notice it failing. If the pressure has gone or the pump is cycling, that is worth a call today rather than next week. We route to contractors who work on wells specifically and cover your area, matched on the ZIP code you give, and you are never charged. Nor does it have to be the well; any plumbing work is routed the same way.
